Wreaths.....

A few crafty wreaths from around the net....

Every Christmas for many years I would go out into the woods around my house and  cut cedar branches to make fragrant wreaths...usually we had a wreath making day and many of the women in our small town (pop. maybe 60-80? in the winter) would all get together in our community hall and make wreaths...then we would send them in on the mailplane to the Pioneer Home in Sitka for all the elders to enjoy. Sometimes I really miss those community activities. I haven't really lived here in my new home in a new (to me) city long enough to have a community to create wreaths with...but I certainly have some great ideas for wreath making (next year) now !

Welcoming the New Year with a Vintage Pin Cushion

One favorite present I received during the Holidays was this very colorful and fun (and practical) vintage pin cushion (thanks Ardie!)---isn't it cool? it came with the pins in it..

And her (soon to be 9 year old) son gave me this vintage stuffed squirrel (thanks Hayden!)--it has quite a bit of character for a stuffed toy....

and my son-in-law gave me this lovely soap he made....I really love the presentation with the fragrant cinnamon stick attached....(thanks Dustin!)



of course--- I currently have a few projects on the needles....seems it is about time to finish up some of them....this is the first of a pair of "half mittens"

this lace and cabled hat is knit with hemp/cotton yarn

and here are some itty bitty baby bootees---I am using fine lace weight wool to make these tiny sized for a newborn

I do manage to finish some projects---
In fact, I created these warm, fuzzy, soft slippers for a Holiday present for my daughter---I liked them so much I plan to make a pair for myself!

Holiday Vintage

First of all, I like to send you all over to the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog--where they have been posting great gift craft tutorials everyday for over a month. Awhile ago I answered their holiday blog meme questions in a post and today they chose to mention my Holiday Meme and Fruitcake post! This is one of the craft blogs I check out everyday because there is always something new and interesting posted, and some great links to other craft blogs...so do check them out!

I picked this fun vintage pin up at the Alameda Flea Market (aka the Alameda Point Antiques and Collectibles Faire)---talk about vintage holiday decor! The Alameda Flea Market sure has that in November and December! If you live in the Bay Area, you might want to catch this once a month Antique Flea market---it is always the 1st Sunday of the month. This vintage pin is green felt--with many sequins and beads sewn on--with a "pearl" bead strand as the tree garland...I just love this! because it has a 50's vintage funky feel to it.



When I saw this so [awful] so kitschy holiday plate at a thrift store recently, I just had to buy it! Can you tell from my photos that the holly and pine cones are actually 3-d? what a great plate to serve my holiday fruitcake on....
